Leukemia and Lymphoma Evaluations
Clinical Significance
Leukemia and lymphoma populations display characteristic patterns of antigen expression (CD antigens) on the cell surface or in the cytoplasm. Flow cytometric analysis provides increased sensitivity and facilitates identification and proper classification of the hematopoietic neoplasm. This information plays an important role in diagnosis and treatment decisions.
Who should be tested:
Patients with suspected leukemia or lymphoproliferative disorders
Antibody Panels: These are designed based on the suspected diagnosis and may include any of the following:
CD2, CD3, CD4, CD5, CD7, CD8, CD10, CD11b, CD11c, CD13, CD14, CD15, CD16, CD19, CD20, CD22, CD23, CD24, CD25, CD33, CD34, CD38, CD45, CD56, CD57, CD64, CD79a, CD103, CD117, CD123, CD138, CD200, CD235a, HLA-DR, kappa, lambda, myeloperoxidase, and TdT
Specimens:
2-3 ml peripheral blood in EDTA (20°C)
1-2 ml bone marrow in Na Heparin (20°C)
Lymph node or other biopsy in RPMI Flow Cytometry Medium (4°C)
Body fluid in any clean leak-proof container (4°C)
CSF in RPMI Flow Cytometry Medium (4°C)
Fine needle aspiration (FNA) in RPMI Flow Cytometry Medium (4°C)
Forms:
Dahl-Chase Flow Cytometry requisition form along with demographic sheet
Copy of most recent CBC (for bone marrows and peripheral blood samples)
Transport: Please call the flow cytometry lab at 941-8282 to ensure timely transport&delivery
Specimens need to be delivered and analyzed within 24-36 hours.

Test performed:
Monday through Saturday. Stat analysis on weekends available per on-call pathologist
Test reported:
Faxed or mailed within 24 hours after sample is received. Verbal can be given the same day that the specimen is received if requested.
